This Vietnamese farmer received patent for his automatic manure spreader when working in Israel, and has contributed lots of valuable inventions to Vietnam agriculture since he returned to Vietnam.

That down-to-earth farmer is Pham Van Hat from Ngoc Ky commune, Tu Ky district, Hai Duong province, Viet Nam. He invented a series of agriculture machines to help farmers with their tedious farming work. Agricultural workers in Vietnam have got the fame for their hard work, farming experiences and creativity. Excelling in farming, being creative and given chances to access the modern farming techniques and realize innovative ideas, Mr. Hat make miracles for his Israel boss’s business, and Vietnam farming industry.

Rewarded by the Israel boss and patented by this country government for his innovative invention

Unfavorable weather, insufficient budget and unsecured output caused Mr. Hat’s serious loss from farming. He suffered a total loss of nearly 2 billion Vietnam dong from clean and safe vegetable farming in 4 continuous years from 2001. That’s why in 2010, he was determined to work abroad in Israel. Here he was arranged to work in a vegetable farm. Israel’s modern agricultural industry helped broaden his horizon.

On the first day working in the field of hundreds of hector equipped with advanced equipment, he otherwise worked with the hoe. That was because in the field that was spread with composted chicken manure for lighter soil, there required 3 farmers with the hoes chasing after the manure carriers and pushing the manure into the field with the thickness based on individual physical strength.

Mr Pham Van Hat – A Vietnam farmer has patent in Israel

Mr. Hat worked that way until the third day to feel very weary. He insisted meeting the farm owner. Due to his poor English, he gave hand signs and picked up a stick writing squiggly lines in the sand. Surprisingly enough, his Israel boss listened attentively to his idea and allowed him to visualize it. “The Jews are really smart! My boss understood right away that I wanted to improve the machine. He went to the office and came back with paper, pens, compass, rules, etc. for me to visualize my idea,” said he.

His Israel boss allowed him to develop his invention at home without having to go to work. The two communicated mainly with the support of Google Translate. All of the materials he asked for were prepared by the farming staff there. Just after few days, he, with long accumulated knowledge, completed the automatic manure spreader mounted after the manure carrier. Mr. Hat reminded, “Though it was about to night, my boss still made a try on that machine in the field. The machine helped spread fairly manure into vegetable beds. Much to his surprise and appreciation, he hugged me and then sprayed the words ‘Hat’s machine’ on my invention using a paint sprayer,”

More happily, the Israel government’s appraisal board paid a direct visit to the field and tested ‘Hat’s machine’, and licensed the patent for that invention and granted the boss with a middle-class compensation for the innovation and annual Europe travels. In the Lunar New Year 2010, the boss took Mr. Hat to the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel to praise Mr. Hat for his invention and express heartfelt thanks to Vietnamese government that had helped him find out such a talent, and invited members of the embassy to his home for a treat.

With machines designed and improved by Mr. Hat, the farming boss just needed employ 2 workers or so instead of 25 workers as in the past. Mr. Hat was rewarded with 5,500 USD, mobile phone and computer by his boss.

Coming back to Vietnam and continuing with innovative inventions

Early in 2012, Mr. Hat decided to return to Vietnam and run a mechanical factory. With utter passion and accumulated experiences in Israel, he has managed to design injections of vegetable beds, seed spreaders hand held that help exactly distribute seeds on many lines in a row, etc.

At the end of 2012, when visiting a carrot garden in Cam Giang, Hai Duong, Vietnam, he figured that farmers used handheld seeders, but the seeds weren’t evenly distributed and lots of efforts were poured into pruning. He then got the idea of inventing an automatic seeder.

He did research and started realizing that idea. After about one year of research and tests, he attempted to design the automatic seeder of high accuracy. It can run with batteries or 220V power. This robot has been used in the local and come in the market to serve in plant nurseries of carrots, cabbage, kohlrabi and other vegetables. It has been ordered by many farmers from Hai Duong, Ha Noi, Lam Dong. There have been 40 robots sold up to now.

This robot’s productivity is 30-40 times higher than manual labor. The distance between seeds is adjusted by type of seedling, saving from 20% – 30% of seeds compared to the conventional method. At the same time, this invention helps farmers reduce investment cost to 600,000 Vietnam dong/ acres.

Mr. Hat is now working diligently to invent sowing machine, corn machine, harvesting machines of potatoes and carrots, to name a few, in a hope to raise crop productivity, reduce hard work for farmers and improve Vietnam agriculture.
