Aquaponics is the combination of fish and plant organic production using aquaculture and hydroponics systems. It is moving from the realm of experimental to commercial. Get educated and learn more about this production system and if it might be right for your backyard garden or farming operation.

Creation of knowlege base in Aquaponics is part of NARDC's (Nanniode Aquaponics Research and Development Center) mandate. Our mission is to educate people in advance technologies on Aquaponics for employment generation and sustainable livelihood. Training materials prepared for the session are of class, faculty is highly educated and experienced. For home-based/backyard farmers it is a regular one-day activity. For farming entrepreneurs, it is being organised on commercial lines and on consultation request basis at their site.

We are happy to inform you that we are organizing our eleventh one-day intensive training workshop on Aquaponics on 15th June (Sunday) of 2014 at the Nanniode Milk Cooperative Society Hall, Palakkad, Kerala. The details are as follows:

01. Workshop Objectives:
1. To be able to set up one or more of the various home-based/backyard aquaponics systems.
2. To be able to maintain those aquaponics system (s).
3. To be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the various aquaponics systems.
4. To be aware of the different media used in aquaponics.
5. To understand nutrient elements and water chemistry.
6. To introduce commercial aquaponics

02. Topics :
Introducing Aquaponics
Pond dynamics, types of fish, types of plants, fish culture techniques, plant nutrients; technology, design of fish pond, grow beds, cost-effective construction, siphon operations; water chemistry, nitrification cycle – ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, dissolved oxygen, pH, and temperature; important ratios, economics, cost/benefit analysis; and many other relevant topics

03. Dates and Duration:
Date: 15th June 2014 - Sunday
Duration: 10 AM - 4:30 PM

04. Medium of instruction: Bilingual, Malayalam/English. Q&A: Hindi/Tamil as well.

05. No. of participants: 40 nos. (First come – First serve)

06. Guide map/route: will be provided upon request

07. Workshop fees: Rs. 1000 (Includes training workshop, a coursebook "The Guide to the Future of Farming" written by VK Narayanan, lunch and tea)

(iii) Demo Aquaponics farm visit (at Nanniode, 400 m from Nanniode Milk Society)
(iii) Discussions, Q&A

09. Time of arrival: Participants should reach the venue by 9:45 a.m. (please note, this is important)

10. Time of departure: Participants will be free to leave the place after 4.00 p.m.
