Cost estimate for for irrigation using diesel genset

Hello,
We have land (in Ananthpur, A.P.) with good water source (110 ft, 2.75 inches borewell).
We are still waiting for electricity connection and meanwhile looking for irrigation using diesel genset.

Can somebody let me know how much will be the running cost of diesel genset if I use a 6HP motor for irrigation for a crop like maize?

Any other suggestions for short term crops which will use little water?

Hello Sir
The general rule of thumb for fuel consumption is 7% of the rated generator output (Example: 20 kW x 7% = 1.4 gallon per hour at full load).

Pl go for solar pumpset which may costs about Rs.2 (DC pumpset) - 4 lakhs with 2 inches delivery will be highly economical with drip or sprinkler systems. You may have to go to Bank's term loan for installation of solar pumpset . We will give you project report for availing finance from Banks. please contact us for further guidance.
