Hello Kirti,

Can you tell me the details of,

Soil type required, land preparation, irrigation method, maintenance, suitable climate / temperature & is it suitable for (soil which will give good yield of rice, sugarcane, cotton, corn, etc).

Also, How many years will take to get harvesting & profit per acre.

Plants required per acre? any supporting plants required?

Marketing scope?

Soil type required = well drained soil, especially sandy loam. Melia dubia does not tolerate water logging. Water logging causes blistering on the stems which will lead to secondary infections such as fungal infections and will result in trees drying out.

Land preparation=The least espensive method will be just pit and plant. However, ploughing the land will loosen the soil and will lead to better root growth and thus better growth of the trees.

Irrigation method= Irrigated once in a week is sufficient in non rainy months. However, too much of irrigation will cause blistering on the stems. If you can invest, you may go for drip irrigation. Do not flood irrigate in soils which have very poor drainage.

Suitable climate = Melia dubia grows well in cooler climates and can not tolerate very high temperatures in Summer, though there is an example of a successful plantation in such an area in Ananathapur district of Andhra Pradesh. It can grow in areas with temperatures up to 35-38. High temperatures will lead to drying of the tips.

If you are talking of black cotton soil / low draining soil ( I assume you are talking of black cotton soil as you are mentioning certain agricultural species ), Melia is not suitable.

Plants required per acre = at 3x3 meters space between plants, you require 445 plants per acre just to plant. You may require another 50-100 to replace the dead plants if any. No supporting plant is required.

Profits = depend on the growth of the tree and yields which in turn will depend on the soil and irrigation.

Sir,
Can you tell me the details of,melia dubia cultivation.Our land is high fertilized red soil with bore water facility in ongole,south Andhrapradesh, But in peak summer the temperature may cross 45* C.

Please guide me

Hi, If you have enough water from the bore to irrigate in summer at least once a week, Melia will grow in Ongole. Plantations of Melia have survived and grown well in Ananthapur which also has similarly high temperatures. If you need plants, let me know. The plants are available at Hyderabad.
