Start with 5/10 cows. You need nearly 1.25 acres of land with good water facility for 10 cows. Cows can be sourced from TN. Your location? You cannot depend on labour force. For milking You need a small trolley machine operated electrically. You can also plan for organic manure production,vermi composting,cow dung powder sales in gunny bags etc. Most important point here i wish to make is :- you cannot survive if you are planning to give milk to co-operatives/private dairies because they will be paying too low where as when you sell milk to the end consumer/hotels you will get not less than Rs.30/- per litre. You can survive easily. Find your own market. Start the farm near some town where demand for milk is there. Also personally do the marketing.Avoid middlemen.Have your own fodder land to avoid dependency on others. Be prepared to slog yourself as labour is just too costly. You must be prepared to get up early in the morning..Read books on dairying and also milk and milk products which you can make as you get better margins.
