I would like to know how to learn about doing agriculture in tamilnadu. I am new to agriculture, which kind of crop to grow, short-term crops, only using organic fertilizers, which part of tamilnadu is best suited for the recommended crop. Which institute to approach for learning from basic?

Hello,Please read the book pasumai vikatan which will give you lot of knowledge in Agro based industry
First decide where you want to have the farm. The basic criteria for this decision are 1. How you want the money invested back? short term or long term.
If short term, go for horticultural crops like vegetables, millet, flowers etc where you can start getting back your investment with in 6 months. Labor intensive
If you plan long term go for tree ( orchids) like coconut, lime, mango, chickku Amla etc. ( 3 TO 5 YEARS RETURN ON INVESTMENT) less labor oriented
Then you know where you are going to market your produce and think or road approach, railways or airport if export aimed.
If you plan exporting of fresh vegetables to Europe and Middle east , you better choose Tirunelvelli or Kanyakumari dist since Tirvanthapurm airport is very near ( maximum 3 hrs journey)
