My sincere advice....., if you do not have the required resources to grow your own fodder, then never ever think of a Dairy Farm. Relying on bought out fodder is highly uneconomical and leads to disaster. Have been a witness to one such farm in Belgaum, Karnataka. They had around 2000 Murrah Buffaloes, but the whole project collapsed...., leading to the starvation of the animals and the owner in deep debt. Once I had also thought of setting up a dairy farm of my own, did some research and prepared my own project report. It was evident that the prime cost, which ranges anywhere between 60 to 80% of the total cost is fodder. If one has sufficient agri lands to grow sufficient fodder, then one can think of setting up a dairy farm. And today's farms are highly capital intensive and require huge funds. Moreover, banks do not come forward to finance such projects due to lack of consistency in this industry.
