I was going through the forum and looks like a lot of people are getting into EMU rearing/meat etc..

I am curious who is buying EMU meat, feathers, nails etc in India. Is there a market for emu meat in India?

Any insight would be great! Thanks.

emu marketing

Thats the question in all most all the emu farm owners and starters. In my experience i can say that is

1) If you are a new entrant now its good time .. still market requirement for chicks is there and after 5-10 yrs this may not be there as most of them will be having surplus chick stock. By this time your investment will be break-even with profits also.

2) When surplus chick stock is there the price of chick will reduce. Might be for 2000-3000 INR from the present price of 5000-5500 for day old chick.

If you grow the chicks for 1 yr for processing you will be getting 25 Kg - 30 Kg Meat ; 5-10 Ltrs of Oil ; Skin ; Feathers ; etc and the cost of expenses incurred for this 1 yr bird with Rs.2000 day old chick will be approximately 5000-6000 Rs and if you process the bird you will be getting more than 10000 INR.

I understand the numbers. I am trying to assess the market opportunity. Who eats EMU meat? I do not anybody in India who eats emy meat? Is it exported?

I am trying to understand the market potential here - not the financials but the applications

hello,
i am Anil from india, andhra pradesh. here emu bird farming is going on for the past 10 years, and it got more popularity in last 5 years only. here every one are saying that emu bird products like, meat, oil, skin and etc are having huge demand in U.S , EUROPEAN MARKETS and also in AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND. i want to whether is it true?
i had contacted some Friends and relatives in U.S and they said that they haven't seen selling emu meat in the grocery stores there and haven't seen a Menu card in the restaurant with Emu meat on it.
i want to know is there real market for emu bird? can u give me suggestions on this matter.

thanking you
P.ANIL

Thank you for your note. The market in the US is limited; it is not huge. There are several farmers that are doing well with their products by doing their own marketing. The oil is in greater demand than the meat.
There are some business people who are buying the oil, fat and meat. There are business people who are buying considerable amounts of oil for their companies, and they have established oil suppliers who are emu farmers.

I am not familiar with the European, Australian or New Zealand markets. At one time, the Australian market was large, but I do not know its status at this time.

The American Emu Association is having its annual meeting in July in Des Moines, Iowa. You can find out more information at American Emu Association | Developing structural support and visionary leadership for the emu industry
