Costus igneus or Fiery costus or Spiral ginger is an native wild plant of southeast Asia , especially Indonesia .
Costus pictus is a perennial plant , native to Mexico . In Kerala it usually grows as an ornamental plant , house plant .Consumption of the leaves are believed to lower blood glucose levels .

Costus specious or Crepe ginger or Keukand ( Hindi name ) is also an alternative source for diosgenin and generally used to control diabetes .Costus specious widely distributed in sub-himalayan tract of Himachal Pradesh to Assam , Vindhya and Satpura hills in central India and western ghats of Maharastra , Karnataka and Kerala .

The rhizomes of these Costus species plants are the major source of diosgenin, which is commonly employed in the synthesis of many steroidal drugs. There is a huge demand for diosgenin by the pharmaceutical companies of both national and international market .

Most of Costus species plants prefers fertile , moist , high microbial biomass and well drained soil in shade . Tropical climate of high humidity is best for cultivation of Costus plants and every species of Costus plant having a different demand and extraction process .

we have insulin plants for sale in bulk quantities. In terms of the land, since I grow insulin extensively, the requirement is for high humidity, shaded land for the best results. If you are going to do it on a barren land, you will not get good results. Only other way is to try in a polyhouse. 9881976661 / gouragroproducts@gmail.com
