hi experts,
i am a software engineer by profession. I am going to quit this job and start a sheep /goat farm. I have a land of 7 acres which is 5km away from anantapur. Anantapur is located in Andhra Pradesh.
Anantapur is 350kms away from hyderabad, 200kms away from bangalore and 450 kms away from chennai.
I have few questions regarding that.
I am going to invest 5 lakhs in that.

1) After seraching the internet for almost a month i came to understand that everywhere there is a discussion about only goat farms. So, I want to know what are the advantages in goat farm over sheep?
2) As i said i can invest 5 lakhs, could u please suggest me in planning that 5lakhs for various purposes in farm like
a) how many sheep/goat can i buy and how much each sheep costs?
b) Life time of sheep/goat like hw long it wil take to produce the first kid for a sheep/goat and what is the interval between 2 productions?
b) how much it costs for borewell?
c) What are the crops should i cultivate for feed and how much it costs for that and where can i get that seed and what are the proteins required and how much it costs?
d) How much it costs for a shed and hw much area needed for that best type of shed?
e) What are the marketing strategies?
f) What are the challenges in sheep /goat farm?

Ur help will be highly appreciated.

Goat farm is 10 times more profitable than sheep farm.

Sheep gives birth to 1 kid in a year whereas goat 2-8 kids in a year(in goats Kidding depends on type of breed that you select to breed).

Maturity period of sheep is of 390 days whereas goat matures in 180- 300 days(depends on type of breed).

Goats are highly resistant against diseases as compare to sheep. So mortality of goats is less as compare to sheeps.

Goat meat has very high demand as compare to sheep meat.

Marketing of goats is very easy as compare to sheeps.

Goats requires less fodder as compare to sheeps.

The only plus point with sheeps is that, they produces wool 2-3 times in a year. But just considering the wool profit you cant go with sheeps, just think of above points regarding goats.
In the end the profit obtain by selling goats is much higher than that obtain by selling wool and sheeps.

With regards,

Dr.Shaikh
