Some foodstuffs are incredibly expensive. That is the result of their rare character, the amount of work to procure them, to prepare them and/or because they can only be found in one exact place in the world, which makes supplying them difficult.
This herb comes from the saffron flower. Although it grows almost everywhere in the world, not everybody is interested in cultivating them. At least between 50,000 and 70,000 flowers are required to obtain one pound of dried saffron (0,45kg). This is the same as a football field full of flowers... which have to be picked one by one by hand. It is therefore not surprising that the price increases to 6,000 euro (Rs. 407,644.56 ) per kilo for the best quality.In India fake Kashmiri Saffron cost Rs. 200 per gram.
