| Dr.P.Marimuthu,Programme Coordinator,CENDECT KVK,Theni | Balanced nutrition is very important for high yield, quality and resistance to disease, however very few farmers use micronutrient fertilizers. Due to low organic matter in Indian soil, excessive use of DAP and introduction of high yielding cultivators and fast growing tissue culture plants, deficiency of micronutrients has become a major problem. But soil degradation, poor root health and excessive use of phosphorous has made correction of nutrient disorders through soil very difficult. The efficiency of utilization of soil applied micronutrients is only 3-5%. Hence, foliar spray as a part of integral nutrient management has become important in enhancing the yield and quality of banana.IIHR,Bangalore has developed IIHR Banana Special (Foliar Micronutrient Spray Formulation) which is now available at CENDECT KVK,Theni. How to use: 1. Mix 50 g of banana special + one shampoo sachet + juice of 1 lemon fruit in 10 liters of water and mix thoroughly before spraying. 2. Start spraying on plants from 5th month onwards and once in 30 days and continue up to 10th month stage. 3. Spraying on business on 30 and 60 days after emergence will increase bunch size.
