Hi,

We ahve a 45 acre farm in Gauribidanur in which we are growing grapes on 11 acres (4 acres planted in 2011 January and 7 acres planted in December 2011) and 12 acres of Yelaki banana (planted in October 2011). I would like to diversify and not just keep all hopes on these fruit varieties and need suggestions from knowledgeble people on what can be done.

About the place
- 600 mtrs above sea level
- Excelent ground water resources
- Soil is Red soil with gravel.
- Temperature is 20 degrees(winter) to 38 degrees(summer).
- Rainfall only during rainy season(monsoons)
- Sunny and bright all through the year

We would like to go in for plantation crops as it is not possible to manage vegetables and other labour intensive cropping. A few ideas which i have been thinking about are as below

- Mosambi (But we are doubtful if the weather and climate is suitable as we have not found any people growing citrus fruits in this area.)
- Guava (Marketing?)
- High density Alphonso (Yield?returns?marketing?)

If anyone can share ideas for anyother crop also it will be really helpful, like
- Feasibility - Marketing, cost, returns, use of machinery, labour required
- Can it be grown in the climatic conditions given

Regards
Chethan

Dear Chethan,
Good on interesting on plantation.
Citrus has got very value now, Gowribidanur area is suitable to grow any kind of citrus verities.

Suggest you to go for multi crops even in grapes also.
You will interested if you get additional income in grape garden along with grapes.

Pls check you pm.
Regards.
