wanted tree guard solutions for "go green" project for a small town

im part of an local non profit organization that is working towards development of a small town in tamil nadu.

We are planning to start a project called "go green" in this we plan to plant 500 trees. as part of this project we need tree guards to protect the 5 ft tall saplings. we worked out that the cost per tree would be around Rs 1000/-. and the most expensive part of this is the tree guard.

I want help to find suppliers who can provide low cost solution for this.

Hi , First of All thanks for your initiative. You are doing a great job. "planting tree". I was also under similar situation like you regd tree gaurds, yes it is expensive. But you do it on your own if you have time and patience. So that the cost of each tree would be around Rs250-300 only. If you try to get from market it will be around 700-800. Do not buy from market. Buy steel mesh from hardware shops according to the number of trees. Steel mesh come in 4 or 5 ft height .You can get 5ft one. the cost per sqft is around Rs15, depending upon the quality of the mesh. You need 5ft height and 4ft length of mesh for each tree. So for each tree 20 Sqft of mesh is required which comes Rs300 per tree. Make sure that the shop guys cuts them and give in pieces of 20sqft for each tree. Then you can roll the mesh and connect using a normal steel cables used for concrete purposes.these cables you will get for 1/4KG Rs.20. Now your tree guard is ready !!!!. To protect it fro removing by theives, while laying it use some waste steel rods to pluck it at the bottom of guard and make sure it goes inside the ground.So even if somebody try to remove he has to spend 15-20 mins to remove it.
