I am a small farmer from Nawada district in Bihar. I am fond of growing basmati rice varieties. I stored the rice in 3'x8' steel drums after milling it in February this year. However, when I opened the lid of the drum to take out a couple of quintals of basmati rice on 30-8-2012, I was shocked to find the inner walls of the drum plastered with nearly 2 to 3 inches of moist rice emitting bad odour and in a discolored state. Further, the rice had transformed into large knots. My entire labour and investment in producing the rice was a total waste. I, therefore appeal through this forum that some tips be provided so that I can store rice at home for a period of at least two years. I shall be highly obliged.
