Which one is better? I am looking to cultivate Ultra High Density Mango. Can somebody help me understand what is the difference between the two and which one would give higher yield?

Is there a yield difference between the two?

Most nurseries including Jain irrigation is promoting Softwood. Why is that?

Softwood grafting
The technique of softwood grafting is similar to that of cleft or wedge grafting. In this case, grafting is done on 3 month to 8 month old rootstocks. The rootstocks attain graftable thickness within 3-6 months due mild winter. In the past , this technique has been in use in situ orchard establishment under adverse soil and climatic conditions as the grafting operation is performed using cleft/wedge method on the newly grown top portion of the plant one year after the rootstock establishment in the field . The scion shoots of the thickness equal to that of rootstocks are defoliated 7-10 days prior to grafting. The graft should be secured firmly using 1.5 cm wide, 200-gauge polyethylene strip. July and August months with high humidity and moderate temperature are the best for the success of softwood grafting.

Instead of softwood I prefer Veneer Grafting for Mango. I have two 12years old tree and 15 other grafted trees by them 1.5years old fruiting very heavily due to DA-6{Di-Aminomethyl Hexoate} further added.
Veneer grafting :
This method of propagation holds promise for mass scale commercial propagation. The method is simple and can be adopted with success. Eight month to one year old seedling rootstocks are suitable for this method. For conducting this grafting operation, a downward and inward 3-4 cm long cut is made in the smooth area of the stock at a height of about 20 cm. At the base of cut, a small shorter cut is given to intersect the first so as to remove the piece of wood and bark. The scion stick is given a long slanting cut on one side and a small short cut on the other so as to match the cuts of the stock. The scion is inserted in the stock so that the cambium layers come on the longer side. The graft union is then tied with polythene strip as recommended for inarching. After the scion takes and remains green for more than 10 days, the rootstock should be clipped in stages. The scion wood to be used for veneer grafting requires similar preparation. The desired shoots should be defoliated at least one week prior to grafting so that the dormant buds in the leaf axils become swollen.

Rishab,
Thanks for the info.

If it helps, I am planning to do Ultra High Density Mango plantation - 450 plants in 1 acre. I have seen that in Jain farms near Coimbatore (they are actually doing 650 plants in 1 acre)

They are using Softwood. Is there any yield difference between softwood and approach?

Please note, my trees will be regularly pruned and will never exceed 7 feet height..Do I still go for Approach in this case (given that even after 10-12 years, my trees will be 6-7 feet high and not a gigantic tree)

Softwood graft/approch graft mango

Hi
The veenier approch side grafting method was implemented from the ancient period like mohals period. So its a tradtional ,ancient and best method of mango propagagtion. But the softwood (Eficotail) method was intiated in recent days i.e maximum 10 years. But this type of propagation occupied in mango cultivation is very less percentage and the yield from this method is also little bit less than the approch graft method. For maturity and yield pattern will be delayed in softwood graft method. Its proved in Dharmapuri Dist. Now the Horticulture department and the govt orchard are doing the soft wood grafting for target purpose .No private nurseries are not interested in this method. You are only man asking and enquiring about softwood graft mango saplings. The softwood grafting ,method is very dedious job when comparing with approch side grafting. For softwood grafting we need mist chamber with auto mini sprinklers for proper irrigation with stipulated intervals .So side approch grafting method is very useful for farmers .

Firstly I would let you know that if you are planting Grafted saplings/Trees they would NEVER EVER become Gigantic/Huge I have a research paper on this.If you grow by seed then only plant become huge.Your yield depends on How Strong is the ROOT SYSTEM of plant that means you first priortise Best of Best rootstock. You are confused b/w Softwood or other approach they hardly have major difference in terms of yield but it matters in success rate of grafting wih veneer having higher success.
YOU WILL FIND ALL INFO IN THIS LINK

Rishab -
When you say higher success rate for veneer, is that at the time of propagation in nursery or at the time of planting on the field?

Is the survival rate on the field same/similar for both?

Secondly, why is softwood grafts cheaper?
I am talking to a nursery in Salem where softwood is for 40/- and Veneer for 60-70/-
