What Is Reverse Osmosis?
In the normal osmosis process, the water naturally moves from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration. Applying an external pressure to reverse the natural flow of water, thus, is reverse osmosis.
Reverse Osmosis System Working Principle
Reverse osmosis system makes use of a semipermeable membrane to remove many types of large molecules and ions from solutions by applying pressure to the solution when it is on one side of a selective membrane. The more contaminant present in feed water, the higher the pressure needed to force clean water through the membrane. Purified water is collected from the clean side of the membrane, while impurities are flushed down the drain from the contaminated side.

Reverse osmosis system removes salt, heavy metals and other dissolved inorganic minerals which are difficult to remove by other methods. Reverse osmosis system is widely applied in beverage, food, textile, chemical, pharmaceutical industry and other industries for water purification.
