residential land to Agricultural land Possible?

Hello members,

I have one odd query. Can we convert residential land to agricultural land? by doing so will the owner become farmer?

I actually have ancestor land in Gujarat in some village. Now no one is staying in the old house and land rates are very low. so planning to use that land for some agri purpose. Is it possible to convert residential plot to agriculture land?
