Hi

Groundwater Dams
Groundwater dams are structures that intercept or obstruct the natural flow of groundwater and provide storage for water underground. They have been used in several parts of the world, notably India, Africa and Brazil. Their use is in areas where flows of groundwater vary considerably during the course of the year, from very high flows following rain to negligible flows during the dry season.

The basic principle of the groundwater dam is that instead of storing the water in surface reservoirs, water is stored underground. The main advantages of water storage in groundwater dams is that evaporation losses are much less for water stored underground.

This is one of the methods, for further examples please refer the rainwaterharvesting.org website

Farmers that have Greenhouses can easily install a water drainage system that collects all the rain that have fallen on the greenhouses and that is piped by graviety to your under ground reservoir, This is an old but very effective method used by many farmers arround the World, while you will be saving energy of pumping natural water from the water table.

Dear Vijay,

First of all I congrajulate you for starting a thread without selfish motive, which will be useful to all. I also can contribute some thing under this thread. I request all members to put your ideas here. Also we should start some interesting topics like this so that it will help all.

I feel harvesting of rain water in to the defunct / functioning well/bore well in the farm will be very useful. This will improve the water level in the well and help in summer.
