Teak :

Agro-climatic requirements :
Teak prefers moist, warm tropical climate. It can withstand extremes of temperature, but maximum & minimum shade temperatures of 39- 44 0 c and 13 - 17 0 c respectively are the most favourable for its growth. It grows well in rainfall zone of 1200-2500 mm. It prefers a deep, fertile, well-drained soil. The sandy soil is considered to be the best soil texture for this tree. It fails to grow in the soil with pH below 6.5.

Gmelina arborea ( swagan teak ) cultivation

The swagan teak is a one kind of short term investment .Its not a teak but what teak will dos the gmelina arborea timber will dos. There is no hybreed & tissue culture in gmelina arborea(swagan teak). This has been promoted and propagated by seeds. One acre will requires nearly 450 to 500 seedlings not 1000 seedlings. The standard spacing dimension will be 12'x12' & 10'x10'.the 12'x12' will be very suitable. The yield pattern in gmelina arborea will be one ton per tree on completion seven years as average basis. If we extend for three years more the yield will be 1.5 years as average basis. Now the current market rate is Rs 5000/- per ton.Initialy we can apply the fertiliser like DAP,Potash & urea for every month @ 30 grams per plant. If we plant eugaliptus in a acre the yield will be minimum 25 tons maximum 30 tons on completion of 5 to 6 years minimum.
