1. Current World consumption & demand for Patchouli Oil, preferably countrywise.
2. Present Patchouli Oil demand in India and the quantity produced.
3. Present Patchouli Oil price in India and International price.
4. Risk factors involved in cultivating Patchouli and producing Patchouli Oil
5. Can India produce quality oil and sell in the indigenous & world market.

The patchouli oil market has seen a remarkable run-up over the past 12 months, culminating in record high prices for the oil. Still, buyers are looking for even more premium quality patchouli and arc willing to pay the prices, resulting in a seller's market for top grade oil. Prices were initially driven up by a production shortfall on the Indonesian island of Medan, where the bulk of the world's patchouli leaves are grown and distilled.

Even though production bounced back in 1997, demand had already surpassed available supplies, particularly in the US--which now accounts for 60 to 70 percent of patchouli oil consumption. Informations asked for are are:
1.Current demand is 1000tonnes and can go up 1500 tones in future,India USA,Japan are major consumers of oil.
2. In India, almost 175-200tonnes os oil is imported and consumed.Although entire volume is not true oil and composed of different grades.India produces small quantity not exeeding 10 tonnes.
3.International price Rs.1900/kg.Indian price Rs.2000-Rs.2200/kg.
4. There is no risk. Still in some areas, there can be severe incidence of nematode which can be managed through different options.Selecting suitable location/climatic zone is important to minimise the cost of prodution.
5. Yes India has the potential to produce as much oil as required to meet world demand.Indegenous oil quality is far superior than what is imported from abroad(Indonesia). As a result Indian oil featches more price,Rs.2400-Rs.2600/kg or even more.
