Biomass energy is one such renewable source of energy.

The original Napier or Elephant grass (Pennisetum Purpureum) is native to tropical Africa. It grows best at higher temperatures. Yields are reduced at low air temperature and plants cease to grow at below 10 degrees centigrade. It normally grows in areas of with annual rainfall of over 1000 mm, but is also seen in semi-arid areas. Its production is higher on fertile soils but can grow on almost any soil. Hybrid Napier is developed by crossing Napier with Bajra.

Being a sterile hybrid, it is propagated by stem cuttings or rooted slips. Planting can be done at any time if irrigation is available except during winter months. The first cut is taken 60-75 days after planting and subsequent cuts at 45-50 days interval. The average yield of green fodder is 350-400 MT/Ha/Year.

napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum) are producing 25 to 35 ODT/ha/yr.

Why Napier Grass (co 4)?

1. They establish easily and grow with the nature at a rapid speed
2. Adopt well to different ecological situations
3. Ecological Security
4. They impart in the sustainability of production
5. Need for storage of energy is not required
6. Multipurpose utilization
7. Renewable fuel energy

We have furnished high yielding improved grass fodder slips(CO 4) with reasanoble price.

Hi

I am very concerned with the high oxalate content and the sharp blade like leafs, i am experiencing this in co3 and it is not comfortable to harvest it by hand even carrying and handling is uncomfortable, is co4 any better ?

Bio-Mass based Power Plants :

Bio-Mass based Power Plants :

Biomass:

It is renewable, widely available and carbon-neutral and has the potential to provide significant productive employment in the

rural areas. It is also capable of providing firm energy. Biomass will include wastes produced during agricultural and

forestry operations (for example straws and stalks) or produced as a by-product of processing operations of

agricultural produce (e.g., husks, shells, deoiled cakes, etc); wood produced in dedicated energy plantations or recovered

from wind bushes/weeds; and the wood waste produced in some industrial operations.

Bio-mass Fuels

biomass

The fuel supply linkage to the biomass power projects can be classified into 3 categories. They are the naturally available bio-mass potential, energy plantations

specifically grown for the purpose and agro wastes generated in villages during harvesting

and processing and in open vegetable markets.

Bio-mass fuels such as prosopis ,Julia flora, wood chips, rice husk, coconut shell, sugarcane trash, groundnut shell, tapioca roots (dry), saw dust, stick waste,

Maize stalk are used in bio-mass based power plants.

Biomass study

The Biomass assessment study are conducted by Anna University, Bharathi Dhasan University, Kamarajar University and Agriculture University and recommended to Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency

TANGEDCO promotes Bio-mass power plants in Tamil Nadu with co-operation extended by the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency. . The related website link is <www.teda.gov.in>

Potential

The potential of Bio-mass power was estimated at 500 MW in Tamil Nadu by MNRE.

At present, 19 power plants using bio-mass fuels with total installed capacity of 139.05 are in operation, 12 Nos. bio-mass power plants with a total capacity of 67.55 MW are under progress. About 2401.84 MU of energy has been generated from Bio-mass plants so far in Tamilnadu alone.

Tariff

The power purchase rate for Biomass power (Order No. 2 of 2009.) Rs. 4.50/Unit to Rs. 4.745/- Unit

Costs

The capital cost required for establishing biomass power plants is in the order of Rs. 4.87 Crores/MW.Costs of generation depend upon the cost of biomass, the plant load factor and the efficiencies of conversion.

Advantages

o These projects can be designed to match the electrical loads as biomass can be stored and used according to demand.

o Equipment for these projects is similar to that for coal-based thermal power projects and hence, no new technological developments are required.

o Due to their proximity to the rural areas, these projects are likely to improve quality of electricity supply in rural areas.

o A variety of biomass materials can be used in the same plant, providing flexibility of operations.
