MANAGEMENT OF PARTHENIUM
INTRODUCTION :
• Parthenium is a toxic, noxious, troublesome, allergenic and invasive weed that poses a serious threat to humans and their livestock.
•In India and Australia, this weed is considered a major source of dermatitis, asthma, naso-skin and naso-bronchial diseases.
•Parthenium ( Parthenium hysterophorus L.) also known as star weed, carrot weed, white cap, white top, etc. have been predominantly present for centuries in Mexico, North and South America, Australia, China, Pacific regions of world .
•It has become one of the seven most feared weeds in the world.
HARMFULL EFFECTS CAUSED BY PARTHENIUM TO CROPS IN FIELD :
If left unchecked, Parthenium can become a challenge to crops and reduce yields by 5 to 50%.
Increases the cost of field farming and also affects crop productivity.
Increases water demand to crops by reducing the water availability and destroy soil nutrients in the field.

MANAGEMENT MEASURES :
1. Dissolve 2 kg of rock salt in 10 liters of water and sprinkle well on the parthenium plants.
2. Spray the salt solution all above the stem, leaves, flowers parts thoroughly.
3. While spraying , Care should be taken not to fall on other nearby crops.
4. 1 or 2 sprays are enough and all the plants are charred well within 3 days at most.
