hello sir
it grows well in Jammu and Kashmir, Dehra Dun and Uttar Pradesh.
The plant thrives in a dry, sunny climate and in deep moist soil, particularly on the banks of rivers subject to periodical inundation.
For cultivation the soil should be well prepared and liberally manured.
Divisions of the crown or rooted cuttings of underground stems are planted 2 ft. apart in rows, the distance between rows being 3 ft. Irrigation is necessary until the plants are established.
The plant may be propagated also by seed.
Propagation by seed (obtained from Austria) was attempted in Kashmir, but proved unsuccessful.
The plants once established need no special attention.
The field may be hoed periodically to keep down weeds.
Catch crops, such as carrot, potato and cabbage, may be grown.
The roots are ready for harvesting in 3-4 years after planting.
The plants are lifted in autumn after the rains.
The soil is loosened, plants dug up, and aerial parts removed.
Broken root parts left in the soil throw out new sprouts in spring and for raising the succeeding crop, only the gaps need be filled by rooted cuttings.

Roots and underground stems after harvesting are cut into pieces and dried slowly under cover. A portion of the harvested material may be decorticated before drying to give PEELED LIQUORICE of commerce. During the drying process, the moisture content is reduced from about 50% to 10%. A yield, under favourable conditions, of 60 md. per acre, of which about 75% is marketable, has been reported.
