In-situ grafting discussion

Hi All,

I am about to undertake plantation in Kokan for Mango, Cashew, Jackfruit, Jamun, and Kokum. I am hoping to do in-situ softwood grafting ... meaning growing in field by seed and after it is 6-12 months old, then do softwood grafting on it. The advantages are that the plant does not have the trauma of transplanting, and more importantly it does not have the disadvantage of spiral-rooting that nursery plants face. I understand that it requires a little better care after grafting, till the graft is successful ... then the plant grows much more vigorously than nursery graft.

I have some queries about grafting:
* Are all of the above (Mango, Cashew, Jackfruit, Jamun, Kokum) suitable for softwood grafting? Is the success rate good?
* I have read about various studies and they differ as to which is the best month to graft. Some say Feb / May / June / Aug / Sep / Nov. What are your experiences?
* Can you share any specific experience or advice regarding in-situ grafting?
* I have also heard about grafting 2 to 3 rootstocks onto a single scion ... have you seen such success? Can you tell me more about it?

Looking forward to your responses. Thanks.
