Hydro diffussion

Hydro diffussion is better than steam distillation.Theory says that steam is passed from the top of the still which penetrates the bio matter and then received at the bottom of the still. Then it is sent for condensation.
My question is this: In general, steam tends to pass upwards since lighter than air,how it can go downwards in the still, while in process? Is there any special still required for this process? If so, kindly explain.
Thanking you.

Hydrodiffusion

Normally it is believed and is true also that during hydrodistillation we get a recovery of oil to the extent of 70% of that recovered in laboratiry on small scale distillation. As such there is scope to improve the yield up to some extent if not additional 30%. Scientist and designers of distillation equipments have tried different methods and alteration in plants. injecting steam from several points has been one of the thinking. Releasing steam from to to bottom is part of such thinking. Steam passes from top to bottom because there is some pressure. In natural way steam will not thats true but since there is continios steam generation and the only way to pass it is the through bottom.it has to go to areas from where a gradient has been created that in form of opening in bottom.
