High Density Fruit Cultivation

Hi,
I have a farm in Jawhar, Thane which has a cluster of fruit trees about 2 yrs old consisting of lime, sweet lime, pomegranate, custard appple and cashew. The thing is that the trees are planted about 12 feet apart in rows and 6 feet apart in columns. I have been told that they are much too close together, and the trees will not fruit. Options are to destroy the trees or leave them as they are..... What should I do??

Dear tony1234,

Have you heard of UHDP? Basically, the mango plants are planted 6ft apart from each other in this method. The only need in this method is to keep the plants small and ensure sunlight touches all the parts of the tree.

Similarly, for your case, there is no need to cut down any trees, but ensure that the trees are small enough and the branches / leaves of each other tree does not touch each other and allows sunlight for the entire tree. If this is taken care of, I do not see any reason why they will not bear any fruit.

Best of Luck!!!
