In the Herbal sector the herbal collectors /gatherers plays the top most significant part in the present scenario. While cultivation is yet to reach to a desirable level, there is no alternative except sourcing herbals from wild.
Fortunately, still there are a few group of people involved in this activity.On observation , such gatherers as a team visits various pockets ,preferably in hill area to collect available herbals.Such collected herbals are processed and stocked in a suitable place on a temporary storage. On getting a reasonable quantity, the gatherers hire a vehicle and deposit at herbal dealers spot for sale. Usually the big dealers provide advance to meet various expenses. Such collected herbals would weigh from 500 to 1000 kgs ,each.The team on sale shares the sale proceeds among them.
As availability of herbal is becoming rare, we have to intervene in the process in such a way to further support and encourage the gatherers .They have to be further oriented on GOOD COLLECTION PRACTICES.To understand the gatherers , their practices and business dynamism TACED has fixed an exclusive meet to deliberate in the forth coming meet.
We are fortunate to have Mr A.Boobathi hailing from Natham ,Dindigul Dist , has 15 years experience in such activity leads a team of versatile gatherers .
