Dear Sir

There are over 300 species of geraniums.True geraniums, or cranesbill, are grown in almost any soil as long as it is not wet. They do best in sun, but will tolerate some degree of shade. Leaves are rounded and lobed, often with 5 points, and are usually fragrant. Many have unique textures, colors, and markings as well. Early summer to fall flowers may be range from white to purple and even blue and are often cup or saucer-shaped.

they are both annuals and perennials,with dark green, green,pink, white flowers.
Bloomtime Range: Mid Spring to Late Summer
Light Range: Part Shade to Full Sun
pH Range: 5 to 8
Soil Range: Mostly Sand to Mostly Clay
Water Range: Dry to Moist

Becaue of rose like aroma,geranium is most preferred material in the formulation of flavor and fragrace material,world over. Its major constituents are very similar to rose. About 750-1000tones of oil is produced annually,still there is acute shrtage of genuene oil in world market. Even annual production of 10000tnes/annum can easily be consumed.Country like India alone imports about 200-250 tones oil/annually.Its a high value crop and requres little typical climatic conditions.Fertile soil rich in OM content is most suited. However,cultivation can be possible in soil that light and have poor fertility status. Climatic requrement is little different than other major agri or horticultural crops. cooler and drier regions are most suited;some places in Nepal can be ideal.Cuttings 20 com long of 5-6 months age are ideal.under favourable weather conditions 60-90days old branches can also be used for propagation. Best time to plant/propagate is when max. temp. in the range of 25-30 degee.
