Can anyone buy farmland in Bangalore

Hey ,

I am a Computer Engg by profession and i want to know if i can buy farmland for farming purpose in Bangalore ?

I read online that only farmers can buy farm lands and not other people in other profession...wanted more rectification on this.

If somebody in your family is an agriculturist in India - that will help to prove/show your family tree to re-establish your farming background.
Bacically you need to be a farmer to register agricultural properties in your name. There are ways to register it in your real family farmer & then ask them to gift it to you.
Another alternative to overcome some restrictions are to ask the seller of agricultural property to get the land converted with the district commisioner and then register the sale. In this proceedure you will not be an agriculturist - but can realistically farm the converted property that you become owner of.

Thanx for your response Philip , well i don't have anyone with a agricultural background in my family ......so i guess i will have to look at the next option u mentioned which is the district commissioner .....but again how safe is this ...and how much do you think i will have to pay to get this conversion done and how long will this process take ? ......

Where is your land located ?

When you convert the land to non-agri, the registration value of the property goes up and hence you will end up paying more for stamp duty. If you do not have agri history and if you are already a professional, better to get it converted to non-agri and buy though it is bit expensive

Best alternative would be to buy in border regions like AP (which don't have req. that you need to be a farmer to buy Agr. land) We currently have around 50+ Acres of red fertile land near Bellary(120 kms). PM me if interested, can send more details & pics.

Hi Mathewchris I am also a computer engg professional and I have bought an agricultural land near electronic city but in the border and I have just fenced and drilled a borewell. Other things we can share if you or me needing any help.
