Hi All,
I have been recently reading a few articles on the GIR cow form India which has been imported by Brazil and genetically improved through selective breeding. these cows produce an average of 5500 liters per lactation in Brazil and can survive harsh conditions, the top dairy GIR cows in Brazil are yielding around 45 liters of milk a day.
there is also news that Indian government is importing semen of these genetically improved GIR cows to improve the indigenous breeds in exchange for the embryos of GIR cattle.
My question is, is the semen of this improved breed available to farmers in India? if yes were?, if not yet then when will it be available?
