Advice

Hello Sir
Marigold seedlings easily establish after transplanting in the field with minimum mortality.
At the time of transplanting, seedlings should be about a one month old and have attained 3 -4 true leaves with stronger main stem.
Seedlings should be transplanted in well-prepared land in the evening hours (especially during rainy and summer seasons) to avoid exposure to harsh weather which allows better establishment in cool hours of night.
Soil should be pressed well around root zone so that there are no air pockets left. After transplanting, a light irrigation is essential.

Spacing:
African marigold:60 x 60 cm
French marigold: 60 x 40 cm

Manures and Fertilizers: Cowdung manure at 50 t/ha should be applied during land preparation. Besides, 80 -160kg N (Nitrogen), 160kg P 2°5 (Phosphorus) and 160kg K20 (Potash) per hectare should be applied. Half of the nitrogen, entire dose of phosphorus and potash should be applied as basal dose, preferably one week after transplanting and rest half nitrogen should be applied one month after the first application.

Irrigation and interculture: Irrigate the crop once in 4-6 days depending upon soil moisture and weather conditions. Weeding is done manually and 3 -4 times weedings are requited during the entire crop growth period. Pinch the terminal portion of the plants 30-40 days after transplanting to encourage branching and increased number of flower bud formation.
