Default PEPSI in Contract farming?

After a gap of one month Iam called here to shout!
Thanks to PEPSI holdings.
I read an article in The Hindu today and was shocked to see the proposed "contract farming" of this MNC to grow Maize in Haveri and three other Districts in Karnataka.
PEPSI sells Cola,Mineral water and some other food items under its brand patented and sported by stars and sports personalities.
While we are ready to pay Rs15/liter to PEPSI's mineral water and RS30/Liter to their small to Big colas we are bit nervous to promote Biodiesel and organic manures is not it?
PEPSI's sudden concern towards Maize and their interest in contract farming is not a healthy sign considering the possible explotation of Maize which is one of the cheapest feedstock in Poultry and cattle feed.
RED ALERT!!!!!! PEPSI be resisted from encroaching the Agri sector!!!!!
Bhadrinath.

Default Pepsi in Contract farming.

I beg to differ.

Industry and Agriculture have to shake hands and co-exist in trust if agriculture has to add value to itself. The possibility is either rise of farmers' co-operatives or ushering in the industry. farmers co-operatives have had limited success in most of cases, except in the cases such as Amul.

What is important is that the rights of the small and marginal farmers be watched and see that their lands and properties are kept clear or any such contracts.

Pepsi has been doing cultivation of Basmati Rice in Punjab for last about ten or more years and people seem to have developed faith on their contact system.

It will be better to watch them and be on guard than shooing them away !

Regds

Default PEPSI........

The Blue company is not the solution in certain areas of Agriculture.
We do not confront PEPSI outright but their sudden appearance in the name of Cont(R)act farming in fertiled, irrigated, and genuine agricultural state.
I wish PEPSI does not harm the interests of small and poor marginal farmers who really survive on one crop in a year in the form of Maize in HAVERI and other neighbourig districts of N.Karnataka.
BY the by we are not against someone contributing to Agri-culture willingly.
Be its PEPSI or COKE!!!!

Dear All,

The general understanding is PEPSI Internationally owns a chain of restaurents in name of K.F.C (Kentuck Fried Chicken)

As name suggests, its primarily a chicken food business.

They have a system of a standardised Poultry feed so that they have uniform quality of chicken.

In case, as per your inputs, if they're getting into contract farming for MAIZE, it could be part and parcel of their business.

they have a company called pepsi foods in india and they have business interests in various agri items inlcuding veg & fruits, apart from grains & commodities.

whether their business terms are good / bad / fair is another subject altogether.

there should be resistence for anybody who gets into unfair practises.

if farmer is ensured fair and guranteed returns, nobody should be discouraged either.
