Hi all,
I have agricultural land with 3600sq ft in Tamilnadu very near Madurai that is vacant. I strongly desire to plant some crops in this land. I need to have information about What kind of crops can be planted here in this less area that satisifies the following criteria. 1. Needs less water to grow. 2. Needs less people for maintenance. 3. Can be reaped /harvested after many years. I am not interested in getting more profit but I want the land to be of some use out of it and little profit is more than enough for me. Pl pour in ur advice. Thanks. |

Madurai Mally (jasmine) is very famous in national and international markets. So go for the same with full confidence; nearness to Madurai, nominal waiting period for starting income and regular income are plus points. Drumstick is also a good option. Dear Sir
Jasmine can be cultivated in wide range of soils i.e., from sandy loam to clay soils. However, itcomes up well in well drained rich sandy loam soils. The ideal conditions for successful cultivation are warm summer with ample water supply and sunny days. Land Preparation and Planting One or two initial ploughings are required to remove the weeds present in the land, which is followed by digging of pits at a size of 30cm3. Each pit should be applied 10 kg of Farm Yard Manure (FYM) before filling the pits. Planting should be done during June-November at a spacing of 1.5m x 1.5m. First irrigation should be given immediately after planting and subsequent irrigation at an interval of 7-10 days depending upon the weather conditions and soil type. Asiatic jasmine requires no irrigation with normal rainfall. In extreme droughts, once monthly irrigation is suggested if no rainfall occurs |

Dear Ms.Laxmi Priya,
From your enquiry it is clear that you need a plantation which has to flourish with less water and less labour. Then my suggestion would go to tree plantations. You can go for casuarina, Match stick tree, Acacias etc. Regards Surya Narmada |
