Hello:
I am planning to plant coconuts in about 5 acres of land in an area (near Panagudi, Tirunelveli district, Tamilnadu) that is known for it's high wind velocity, especially during June-August months. I have read and have also heard from a few experts that high wind can damage coconut trees in a way that stops the tree from producing for a couple of years.
Would appreciate any information or help with the following questions:
1. Are there any problems by high velocity winds on coconut plantations? What are these problems?
2. Is there any mitigation for such problems? For example, deep planting of the seedling, rows of tall trees to cut down on winds etc?
3. Are particular varieties of coconut suited better for high wind areas?
