250 cow dairy

Dear Sir,

Kindly find answers to all your queries as given below:-
1. Govt. subsidy :- Available on Indigenous milk processing unit, Bio-gas plant etc. Also loan on low interest rates are available.
2. Project cost for a 250 cow unit :- Rs. 2.85 crores
3.Market :- Every drop produced will be sold from door step. Market facility for disposal of dung/manure also available. Marketing of surplus livestock can be facilitated along with buyback agreement for pregnent heifers.
4. Best Breed :- holstein Friesian though Holstein crossbreed i.e. HFXS, HFXRS, HFXT are recommended as initial stock.
5.Milking period is generally taken as 300 days in order to have parity in comparing lactation yield, though dry period in HF or HF crossbreed is around 30 days on an average.
6. land requirement :- 35 Acres (250 cattle) 120 acres (1000 cattle) is sufficient for providing 365 days green fodder in adlib quantity.
7. The business is expected to generate ROI of 25-28% from very first year. Rest, details regarding profitability can be better understood by analysing projected cash flows, DSCR, Ratio analysis etc.

Dear friend I am happy to hear that u r going to bigger size scale of dairy farm.

As per my knowlegde no Govt. subsidy is available since u rs is commercial unit.
U can have lots of good consultant who are wel versed in that field.
Since u r going for such scale abviouly u can go far u r own milk products.
As of now, 30-35 milk yeilding cows are available, but maintnance is little bit tuf to u r area.
Milking period of cows will be 310 days.As per NDRI rules u can raer 6 cows in one acre.On practical,35-40 acres of land is good enough.

Dear Siva

Pls do not go big in a single shot

start with a smaller unit

Land...do you have own land or a leased one?
if yes what is the size?

Do you have sufficient water facility?
is it sufficient to cater to the cattle?

are you planning to grow green fodder on your own?
if so what is the size of land available?

do you have manpower to cater to this unit
if so what is the size?

Now to start basic...look at having around 10 cows / buffalo

look at a construction which can accomodate atleast 15...space to store fodder, space for milking, space for cow dung, urinals storage (all these are money)

Milking station has to be clean and hygenic....manual is a tough task...get the right machines

Identify a good buyer for your product

Identify dry / green / nutritional fodder suppliers

Identify the doctor

quite a lot of subsidy available for this from the government

go step by step

am sure this is a successful business
