CLUSTER BEAN (GUAR) FOR SEED AND GUM


Varieties : HG -563, HG -365, RGM -112, RGM-111, GG-1

Soils /Areas : Red Soils and light soils with good drainage facilities.

Land Preparation : Land should be prepared to fine tilth with 2 ploughings
followed by a harrowing.

Sowing time : May – August - rainfed.
January – April – ID

Seed rate : 5 – 6 Kg / acre

Seed treatment : Treat seed with Vitavax (2g /kg) to check pre emergence
seedling mortality / Bavistin (2g /kg ) treatment to check post emergence seedling mortality.

Spacing : 30 x 10 cm

Manures & Fertilizers: 20 Kg N + 50 Kg P2 O5 + 10 Kg K2 O per ha. Treat the seed with good quality Rhizobium.

Intercultural operations: Pre-emergence application of pendimethalin @1.5 Kg/ha
and one hoeing within 30 days to keep fields weed free. Thinning must be done by 20 days after sowing.

Irrigation : Rainfed dry lands - Nil

ID : 3 irrigations at 20 days interval.

PEST AND DISEASE MANAGEMENT

Powdery mildew : Spray carbendazim (0.1%) or thiophanate methyl (0.1 %)
twice at 10 days interval soon after noticing the disease.

Dry root rot : See seed treatment. Grow resistant varieties like HGS-
862, HGS-843, HG-75, RGC-1019.

Harvesting : Cut the crop to ground level when 80% pods turn into
straw colour.


Threshing : Threshing can be done either by bullocks or tractor after
thorough drying.

Post harvest technology: Store properly dried seed in nylon or polythene
bag or compactly knitted gunny bags.

• Care must be taken while harvesting and follow weather forecast .
• Crop maturity times should not coincide with continuous rains or cyclonic rains which affects the quality of seed and fetches low prices.
