The polyhouse cultivation is possibly the most intensive method of crop production. It is highly productive and protective of environment. Since flower crops are treated as high value crops and their regular supply in the market in fresh condition is an essentiality, the utility of polyhouses has been found to be maximum with respect to these crops.

Points to be considered before starting protected cultivation:
1. Initially you have to complete a short duration course of protected cultivation of gerbera. Also visit any successful farmer of gerbera cultivation.
2. The site should be away from the industrial area to avoid pollution injury to the crop plants.
3. Shade due to any building or trees is also harmful. Ground slope should be such that surface water is directed away from the greenhouse. Even if the greenhouse is at higher ground level, the stagnating water around it may saturate the soil through seepage, hence proper drainage provision is essential.
4. Location with respect to all weather road facilitates the construction of the greenhouse and allows prompt disposal of the produce. Nearness to the cities, safeguards the market interest. However, a polyhouse meant primarily for seedling production may be located away from the cities.
5. A dependable water supply has to be maintained for all categories of polyhouses, having environmental control equipments or not.
6. Besides, electrical supply is also essential.
7. A east-west orientation of the polyhouse ensures good winter light and protection from northern winds.
8. Availability of sufficient labour facility is necessary.

There are no subsidy right away, however, when you start it you can avail 40% of your investment with interest free loans and other 50% with nominal interest at 6 to 7%. You need to invest 10% from your pocket.

Polyhouse can be constructed at different budgets.

You can stat anyways from 8 lakhs to 10 lakhs for a descent returns.

    Thanks
