Brazil to ban cyhexatin

Posted 03-26-2009 at 03:05 PM by chemisumo

Brazilian pesticide toxicology authorities have recommended the cancellation of all registrations of the acaricide, cyhexatin.

The Ministry of Health's national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, found that the active ingredient had extremely high acute toxicity in animal tests, and had already “been banned or had severe restrictions in several countries due to human health risks”.

Cyhexatin is the base of seven registered pesticide products in the country. Citrus crops dominate among the crops the ai is used on, but it is also applied on apples, strawberries, peaches, coffee and aubergines.
