Not all live yeast products are the same!

Do you use a compound feed containing a protected live yeast product?
If so, do you know which yeast product your feed contains and how stable that yeast is at high temperatures? Are you aware that some live yeasts are denatured at the temperatures typically used in the manufacture of compound pelleted feed so may not be effective?
Recent independent trials conducted by SILTEC in France compared Actisaf Sc 47, the market leader in protected live yeast, with its main competitors to see how each stood up to high temperatures. The results were startling. Only Actisaf Sc 47 remained completely stable during the pelletisation process, with some of its competitors becoming critically damaged.

Why is this important?

If you are paying for the inclusion of a live yeast into your feed then it is important that the yeast is still alive after the feed has been manufactured! The unique manufacturing process used to produce Actisaf Sc 47 granules means that the core is protected by a layer of dead yeast cells. This ensures that more live yeast cells reach the site of action alive, even after being subjected to high temperatures, and so can deliver benefits to your livestock.

What does this mean for me?

Put simply, it means that not all live yeast products are the same. Whilst all yeasts might promise similar health benefits, the product actually needs to be able to deliver these benefits effectively after being added to a compound feed. Only by specifying Actisaf Sc 47 in your compound feed can you be assured that the yeast cells you are paying for will actually be working for you and your animals.
