Sustainable Cosmetics Summit discusses natural and organic products

The natural beauty industry needs to do more to persuade consumers of the value of going green, according to experts at the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit.

The summit was held recently in New York City, with more than 180 executives from various sections of the beauty industry discussing critical issues relating to natural and organic cosmetics and sustainability.

This has become a key issue recently as natural cosmetics have been suggested as a possible threat to the organic food supply.

World Press Online reported: "The summit covered a diverse range of sustainability topics including environmental impacts, social footprints, sustainable supply chains, ethical marketing and distribution, natural and organic cosmetic standards and green formulations."

Charles J. Bennett, of Aveda, said that growing public concern means the beauty industry needs to engage more with consumers.

The summit seemed to come to an agreement that natural and organic certifications weren't enough to truly authenticate a brand to the public.
