Importance of farming
As many as 1,000 students from 20 high schools in Teerthahalli taluk participated in a campaign to collect indigenous varieties of paddy seeds, and wisdom surrounding agriculture passed on from generations, proverbs and puzzles that revolved around farming.
The campaign was organised by an organic farming collective called ‘Savayava Krishi Parivara’ headed by Arun, an organic farming enthusiastic himself. The campaign titled Annada Arivu was aimed at educating children about agriculture and cultivating among them an interest for the same.
“There are several people who migrate from rural areas to the cities seeking jobs. This has often affected agriculture-related activities. There is need for people to take up agriculture as a means of livelihood,” pointed out former legislator Araga Jnanendra, who was present on the occasion.
