I am doing a feasibility of starting a river buffalo based organic natural dairy farm and free range chicken poultry farm near Karachi. I would appreciate answers to the following:
1. Is there such a thing as allowing free roaming of buffaloes in pastures, with a large pond for them to cool off in, or do we always have to grow fodder separately and feed them. I want to provide milk from the most natural way a buffalo lives.
2. If yes to (1), how much land should we plan to have per buffalo for them to free graze?
3. Besides grass, what other nutritional supplements do we give them that would be natural to the buffalo? I am aware that grain and other fats fed to them create an imbalance of Omega 6 & 3.
4. If there is a list of cost components, details of cooling, parlor dimensions, etc., to start a dairy farm, I would really appreciate it.
I am thinking of starting small, with 10-15 heads and grow to as many as 30 acres of land dedicated to the dairy farm will allow me to do. The total land available for the project is 100 acres. I am also planning to raise free range chickens on this farm as well as organic vegetables on a small scale. If there are numbers available for poultry farms, I would really appreciate it.
