Floriculture is Good in Coorg

Dear Mr. Bhat,

You are very right, you can go for rose cultivation there.

Also the largest flower market in India i.e., Bangalore is 250 Km from Coorg, so, you can market your produce there.

Micro-irrigation is OK but please clarify whether you are going for Greenhouses or it will be open cultivation.

We can provide you comprehensive solutions including micro-irrigation, automation systems, greenhouse structures, agronomical guidance & after sales services.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Thanks.

rose in coorg

Nobody has grown Rose in Coorg in a commercial way...area around bangalore seems ideal for it...coorg has been successful in growing anthuriums. You can also think of fruits such as avacadoes...which grow well in coorg..

dear Bhat,
Coorg climate is best suited for Anthurium cultivation as suggested by sri. Gurunath. There are many Anthurium cultivators in coorg district. Please collect their addresses from Deputy Director of Horticulture madikeri and visit them and learn about the basics and decide

Dear Karnik,

Sure.. I am visiting Madikeri next month. This is a good suggestion to meet Horticulture authority.. Since I am planning to invest in Greenhouse.. I was thinking..whether I can grow roses in controlled climate..!!

I have market for roses..hence I am inclined towards roses..
However if there is good market for Anthuriums and the land I possess is good for that, I am open to cultivate Anthurium as well.

Thanks

Dear Raveendra Bhat,

It is very clear from the points raised by you that you are very novice to agri horti field.
1.Coorg is highly unsuitable for rose cultivation.
2. Anthurium is good and is highly suitable that too if altitude is high.
3. Cost of cultivation of anthurium under green house is 50 lakhs per acre. At least 3 acre should be developed to do good marketing.
4. During the learning phase people will lose plants which are very costly. Hence you have to start in a small scale.
5. You should be capable of tolerating losses during first two years.Lot of advisors you will get in coorg who can not help you fully as they are farmer cultivators and do not have technical back ground. Exercise caution.

If your investment level is good you have to consult a project consultant before taking any decision. Also remember it should be full time activity.
