Patna, May 22 (PTI) The Bihar government has decided to extend red carpet to farm scientists from across the world to popularise organic farming in the state. "The government has decided to invite experts from France, England, Cuba and some European nations for international seminar in June at Patna," Principal Secretary Agriculture A K Sinha told PTI today. The June 22-24 meet is aimed at exploring how organic farming could be promoted in context of Bihar''s ecology. Sinha added that besides agriculture scientist people engaged in manufacturing of vermicompost and international agencies granting approval to its production have been also invited. The effort is part of preparation of a progressive agriculture road-map for the state for next five year, he added. While popularising chemical free farming utmost care would be taken that productivity and profit of farmers are not compromised, the officer said. As part new initiative of chief minister Nitish Kumar, the state has recently held a special cabinet on agriculture to check out a comprehensive plan for giving pace to agriculture in the state whose more than half the population is engaged in the tilling occupation. The experiment (calling a special cabinet on agriculture) is probably first of its kind in the country. Organic farming which aims at substituting chemical pest and fertilisers through bio-fertilisers is latest buzz word in agriculture across the world. This natural mode of cultivation enhances soil productivity, check water pollution, reduces input cost and provides security to endangered forest species.
