REDUCING SOIL pH

Hello

I require the opinions of the expert members in agriculture information. I am intending to purchase an agriculture land [for vegetable production], and I have conducted soil tests ahead of that to evaluate the land. Th test have shown the soil to contain a very high pH value between 7.95 to 8.55.

I have the following queries from the members of this group

1. What vegetables can be grown on soils that have pH values between 8 to 8.5
2. Is it possible to bring down the pH values, If yes, how long would this take, and what measures does it involve

I shall appreciate receiving views of experts on this query of mine

Look forward to hearing from you

regards

Dear Mr Krishnan,

Grow beet root, drum stick even if pH is slightly higher.
Apply more of organic matter, plow back all vegetable mass, cultivate green manure crop and plow back.
check irrigation water for ph and EC.you have not informed EC of soil and water which is more important. It is better to ask a good consultant to visit you farm and give opinion as everything can not be told and learn in a small span of time.

Are you sure your test are correct?

Reducing the soil PH

Dear Krishnan,

You have asked good question of reducing the PH of your land.As per my observation it will be reduced somewhat. At the same time the water of your soil is good you gohead for cultivating the annual crops i.e vegetables like Brinjal, bendi(ladies finger) and cluster beans .And also you can gohead for tree plantations ,fruit cultivation except mango & cashew now itself subject to water is sweet. The water of your land is good you dnt bother about soil condtion. If water is salty(saline) you wnt do any type of cultivation. For reducing the PH please apply gipsum, paddy ash from rice mill, well ripe farmyardmanure with green manure frequently.Kindly avoid inorganic manures.
