Water Tech was set up in 2000 by Mr. Sunil Abrol. The company is engaged in manufacturing and supplying fountain and other landscape products that cater to the diversified requirements of residential and commercial sectors. The products the company supplies include fountains, irrigation systems, water effects, floating fountains, geyser fountains, crown fountains, rain gun, and lily. “We do all type of irrigations specifically landscape and agricultural and horticultural types,” avers Mr. Abrol. The company is headquartered in Chandigarh, Punjab.

The company caters mainly to the requirements of industries like hotels, municipal corporations, farm houses, agriculture farms and many other industrial clients. “So far we have designed and developed around 150 projects across Punjab and Chandigarh,” says Mr. Abrol.

The range of products offered by the company includes the following:

Apart from the product offerings, the company also specializes in offering extensive range of value added services. Some of services provided are:
· Survey and design
· Supply of material
· Commissioning of projects
· Installations
· Maintenance and after sales service

Technology Used
When asked about the technology used, Mr. Abrol says, “Both Indian and imported techniques are used in manufacturing the fountains.”

The company mainly undertakes landscape irrigation for offices and parks and others for agriculture. “These fountains are used for beautification of exterior and interiors in different places for different requirements,” says Mr. Abrol. “They serve purposes of decoration, vastu and filling vacant space,” he adds.

Some of its prominent clients include Quark Media House, Emaar MGF Land Pvt Ltd, IOCL Panipat Refinery and Governor House Shimla beside others. “Our clients include guest houses, golf courses, municipal corporations, banks as well as private clients for their residents and resorts,” avers Mr. Abrol.

The company has not yet started exporting but Mr. Abrol maintains. “We are getting export enquiries. Some foreigners from South Africa, Germany, Dubai and Dhaka have contacted us and taken some samples.”

When asked about the demand for fountains in India, Mr. Abrol maintains, “Fountains are becoming popular day by day and the demand is increasing too. The demand for these fountains is greater in the international markets. However since in India labour is comparatively cheaper, we have an edge over the others as far as manufacturing is concerned.”

The countries, where demand for the fountains is high are Dubai, Dhaka, Yemen, USA, UK and Malaysia besides others. The company mostly markets it products directly and sometime indirectly. “Our sales and marketing team is very small. We mostly get enquiries on net, telephone and directly through reference,” avers Mr. Abrol.

Cost of Products
When asked about the cost of the fountains, Mr. Abrol says, “Since the fountains are designed according to the requirement of the clients so the cost is not fixed always but generally it varies from Rs.15000 onward and goes up to Rs. 5 lakhs, Rs.10 lakhs amd even Rs.30 lakhs as the project may be.”

Turnover
Speaking about the size of the company, Mr. Abrol says, “We are hoping to be a company of around 40 people within next 6 months and our turnover is likely to be around Rs.1 crore by the end of this year.”

Water Tech clocked an annual sales turnover of Rs. 40 lakhs in 2007. The company gets the maximum business from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana.
Mr. Abrol maintains, “We have developed the techniques to manufacture brass nozzles and fountain lights and different manifolds for the system and as for as the investment is concerned in my case, it was only Rs.30000 eight years ago.”

Market Competition
Comparing the products with similar ones offered by competitors in the market, Mr. Abrol says, “More customer satisfaction because of custom made fountains suitable to their size and shape of waterbody and their budget too.”

He adds, “Besides offering quality products, we also extend effective after sales services like maintenance, cleansing and many more. Further, we also extend our consultancy and guidance pertaining to the maintenance of water hygiene and its flow.”

Further speaking about the quality of the products, he says, “From the stage of procurement of raw material to the final stage of production, strict vigil is maintained by our quality supervisors. Our quality control supervisors devote their best in order to offer and maintain the quality and standards of our wide product range.” Mr. Abrol is a graduate in agricultural engineering. He has worked with renowned irrigation companies like Premier, Jain, Netafim and Ripples for around seven years.
