The company has got ISO 9001:2000 certification. Mr. Raj Kumar Kansal is the chairman and managing director and Mr. Abhishek Goel, the vice president.
The company provides all the pesticides, mainly for crops like wheat, rice, vegetables, and fruits. The pesticides are SC (suspension concentrate) and EW (water based) based, which are environment friendly pesticides. Speaking about the states where the pesticides are in most demand, Mr. Goel says, “They are in great demand mostly in Karnataka and Punjab.”
The company also provides counseling to farmers about usage of pesticides. “We have a team of sales peoples and R& D peoples who organize farmers meet in villages time to time and educate them about the new technologies and provide the demo how they can improve their farming and guide them on how to use the pesticides safely. They give counseling regarding what will be the right product for their crops because in most of the places the farmers are uneducated and lack awareness about the right solution for the various crop diseases,” avers Mr. Goel.
Fungicides are used to kill fungi on the crops. Fungicides are less harmful then insecticides. “Our products are manufactured based on the guidelines given by the CIB, the Central Insecticide Board, which provides the permission to make a particular product and all we have to do is to follow those guidelines,” says Mr. Goel. “Our company is an ISO Certified company and we are committed to provide the quality products,” he adds.
Speaking about the market demand for fungicides, he says, “Indian market is ruled by the MNC’s like Bayer, BASF and Syngenta but then also we have established our company based on the quality of our products. Once they use our products, they always come back to us. The demand for fungicide is increasing in India.” He further adds, “Our fungicides like Sweep, Finish, and Zoom are good brands now and farmers like them very much.”
The company manufactures the following fertilizers:
· Dhan–M-Zyme: This fertilizer is derived from living and non-living natural sources like seaweeds, hydrolyzed proteins and humus substances. It is available in liquid form for foliar application and granules for soil application. It promotes balanced growth of crops and builds up the capacity of immunity and resistance. It improves crop quality, quality of fruits and flowers and increases yield.
· Ankur and Uttam Fertilizer: It is an organic fertilizer used especially for organic farming. It is derived from biomass by bacterial and fungal decomposition and enriched with neem-oil, humus and traces elements. It is available in the form of free flowing fine granular powder. It promotes greater absorption of nutrients from soil, rapid growth of plant and disease resistance
“Our Ankur and Uttam khad is neem based product and it is recommended for organic farming. Our product Zoom is a SC based product. Our fertilizers are organic based fertilizers,” says Mr. Goel.
Speaking about the market for fertilizers, he says, “The demand for fertilizers is increasing in India and to meet this we are planning to add more products in this line like Zinc Sulfate, and Ferrous Sulfate because of the high demand.”
The company also provides training to farmers on the usage of fertilizers. “We provide training to our dealers and to farmers on the usage of fertilizers. First we show the demo to the farmers and provide them free samples of the fertilizers for their usage and after the results only we recommend them to use it. We teach them better cultivation of crops.”
When asked if the soil and climatic conditions in India was considered while manufacturing the products, Mr. Goel maintains, “While manufacturing any product, the soil and climatic conditions are always considered. We only procure quality raw materials which successfully pass all the tests, and we don’t compromise with the quality of the product. During the testing, all the soil and climatic conditions are checked.”
Spray adjuvant are used to stick the pesticide on the plant. “When the farmers spray on the plant and the substance sprayed might fall off the crops but after the use of spray adjuvant, it does not fall down and sticks on the leaves of the plant. So by the use of this, pesticide becomes more effective and also less pesticide is required. It is made of non ionic surfactants, mainly polygylcol ethers,” explains Mr. Goel. He adds, “It improves retention of spray droplets on leaves, increases coverage, wetting and penetration of spray droplet.”
Procurement of Raw Materials
The company procures raw materials from various sources, “We don’t depend only on one source for our raw material, and we have relationship with many companies in India and abroad and the supply chain relationship is good. We import technical solvent from China, Italy and Singapore,” says Mr. Goel. “We get the raw material from Cherimoya, Ghardha Chemicals, Meghmani Industries, Excel crop care, etc,” he adds.
Commenting on government assistance, Mr. Goel says, “The farmers should be more educated about the products; government should also arrange for the awareness meet for the farmers and teach them about the usage of fertilizers.”
He warns, “Farmers should be aware of sub standard pesticides and fertilizers in the market. Instead of providing good results, they destroy the crops and the hard work of farmers. So the farmers must be educated about the products they use and how they would be beneficial for them. The government should be stricter in framing the rules so that the sub standard products will be stopped from entering the market.”
The company clocks an annual turnover of Rs. 20 crores. Around 150-200 people work in the organization. Regarding market for the products, Mr. Goel says, “We don’t have any tie up with any agriculture society; all the market is self developed; we did work hard in making the distributor-dealer network to reach the farmer.” The company is also into exports. It exports to countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and some African countries. Mr. Goel is a B.Tech (Chemical Engineering) and Masters in Marketing from University of Birmingham, UK.
In future, the company plans to increase the product range of fertilizers. It also plans to start the manufacture of bio pesticides in the near future. “Whatever we do in future, it will be related to agriculture, to help India become self sufficient in terms of food requirement. We are also planning to open schools in villages to provide education to farmers and poor children,” avers Mr. Goel.
