Default Paddy lying on Roads........

Its a bad and sad news!!!!After struggling to harvest the paddy in time in spite of moderate rain the farmers in Davengere are sleeping on either side of Roads to protect their Paddy continuosly since fifteen days due to lack of fair price and the casual approach of the Authorities in not announcing "Levy" so far.
This is not only a insult to the farming community but also an act of cowardness from a State Govt.which fails to act in time!
Rs800/Quintal was the Price last month and today its less than Rs600/Quintal.
The Sons of The soil must render justice to the farmers and see that tha farm produce are not kept on Highways.
Bhadrinath.

This is an extremely saddening news. If it were not paddy, but something like wheat then people could have organized into small groups and purchased a bag or two to help the farmers. Paddy has to be processed by the rice mills and somehow the rice mills appear to be concentrated in certain regions (like Aluva in Kerala). The old practice of dehusking paddy has almost vanished. Maybe we can request KVIC to reintroduce such small scale industries as a diversification for the farmers so that they can be freed from such plight.

Default Paddy lying......

The MSP is not announced.
The farmers does committ few mistakes in getting credit from Private money lenders who are the hidden owners of harvested crops.
This is one major point ultimately tempting a farmer to sell their grains to the desired buyer opted by money lenders cum brokers.
Its a serious issue and the state Govt must look into this matter sincerely in par with allottment of lands to ............?
Otherwise, farmers may have to sleep on Roads for months together after harvesting which itself a unique venture considering the Rainy season.

National Collatral Managment Services, who store the produce in their WH and provide credit, is this a option for such farmers?

Default Paddy lying......

After posting this message I received some calls and thank those who really took some interest on this issue.
The fact is most of the Paddy variety grown in Karnataka is Sona masuri and the harvested Paddy this season began with a solid support price of Rs800/Quintal and today its hardly Rs600/qtl.
Within a month's time the Price has come down and good season for the seasoned traders in not only charging commission charges@3% but also the Interest@24% per annum towards the funds assisted to farmers against storage of Paddy in Godowns.
I would like to know the role of District Administrations and their report on the functioning pf parallel economy in the name of Marketting Commiittees.
Debate will continue.......
Bhadrinath.
