The nutmeg tree is any of several species of trees in genus Myristica. The nutmeg tree is important for two spices derived from the fruit: nutmeg and mace
Nutmeg trees start flowering from the third year onwards, and are thought to reach their peak yield till 350 years years. The yield for 1st year is 1000/tree/year and every year it multiplies each year and thus in 5 years it yields around 5000 seeds. Thus there are high yielding varieties that yield up to 20,000 nuts a year. The trees will continue to produce fruit until the 350th year or more.
The first harvest of nutmeg trees takes place 1-2 years after planting.Nutmeg is usually used in powdered form. This is the only tropical fruit that is the source of two different spices. Several other commercial products are also produced from the trees, including essential oils, extracted oleoresins, and nutmeg butter
In India it grows in Kerala, a state in Southern India but it can be cultivated in places with warm, humid condition with good amout of rainfall.
